About The Position

The CPS Family Based Safety Services Worker plays a crucial role in protecting children from abuse and neglect by providing in-home services to families after investigations. This position involves assessing child safety, developing treatment plans, and connecting families with community resources to ensure the well-being of children. The worker must maintain effective communication with families and collaborate with various professionals to achieve treatment goals.

Requirements

  • An accredited Bachelor's degree OR an accredited Associate's degree plus two years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Ability to travel and attend child and family visits after 5pm.
  • Ability to be on call on a rotating basis and work irregular hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Social Work may qualify for an increase at the point of hire.
  • Experience in social, human, or protective services.

Responsibilities

  • Responds quickly in crisis situations.
  • Provides time-limited in-home services to meet the specific needs of families.
  • Identifies insufficient protective capacities and develops treatment plans.
  • Maintains contact with parents and children to achieve treatment goals.
  • Assesses child safety and takes necessary actions to protect the child.
  • Interacts objectively with caretakers who have abused or neglected children.
  • Discusses personal issues with families related to income and relationships.
  • Helps identify resources and community support available to the family.
  • Assists parents in recognizing behaviors that lead to child abuse and neglect.
  • Determines actions to remove or reduce immediate threats to child safety.
  • Documents all relevant information gathered during investigations accurately and timely.
  • Works flexible hours beyond the standard work schedule.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with law enforcement and community resources.
  • Attends and participates in trainings, meetings, and staffings.
