About The Position

Co-located with and works with staff from the Department of Children and Families Protective Investigations Division. Provides training, technical assistance and support to the Child Protective Workers by helping to develop a protocol to manage domestic violence cases. Serves as a resource for survivors of domestic violence and any community partners involved in the child protection system. Works with community agencies to achieve project goals of enhancing domestic violence victim safety, increasing batterer accountability, reducing the number of children being removed from a non-offending parent and reducing the number of families re-entering the child welfare system. Victim Advocate provides counseling, follow-up, information and referral, personal advocacy, criminal justice support, emergency legal advocacy, telephone contact, assistance with filing Victim Compensation to domestic violence victims.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a human service-related field, sociology, psychology, counseling, social work, criminology or related field; AND Two years’ experience working with victims of domestic violence and or sexual assault OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • This position requires a level 2 background screening.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle in order to serve as advocate for victims at the hospital or police department and to transport victims to court related appointments.

  • Participates in domestic violence case staff meetings with project partners and other community agency providers to assist in the development of compliance based perpetrator safety plans, the development of case plans that enhance survivor and child safety while holding the abuser accountable for their violence, and to provide support and referral services for survivors of domestic violence where there is an open child abuse investigation.
