About The Position

The Courtroom Judicial Assistant position at the Anchorage Trial Court is a vital role that supports the court's operations by managing courtroom activities, producing electronic recordings, and processing court documents. This position requires individuals who are dependable and can thrive in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that court proceedings run smoothly and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a GED certificate.
  • One year of office clerical experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
  • Additional office clerical work experience may substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
  • Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college may substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
  • Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills may substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, organize, and maintain the courtroom.
  • Call court to order and administer oaths.
  • Log multiple types of court proceedings.
  • Identify, mark, maintain, and store all exhibits submitted in court.
  • Coordinate the movement of litigants, transport officers, court staff, and the public in and out of court.
  • Complete log notes and route files and documents to appropriate offices or locations.
  • Maintain slip opinions, statutes, ordinance books, and administrative codes for the courtroom.
  • Answer and respond to inquiries received through the In-Court Division phone line.
  • Travel to Jail Court and other court locations as needed.
  • Manage several hearings via Zoom and/or teleconference per day, including initiating the hearings and troubleshooting technology.
