About The Position

The Deschutes County Circuit Court in Bend, Oregon, is hiring a Judicial Assistant (Courtroom Clerk) to provide moderate-to-complex administrative support and to clerk in-court proceedings. In the courtroom, you will prepare judgments, orders, and forms, record court proceedings, monitor the recording system while it is in use, and create detailed log notes. You will prepare the courtroom and the jury room, set up conference calls, and troubleshoot technical issues with recording equipment, multimedia systems, and assisted listening devices. You will also manage exhibits. Additionally, you will perform bailiff duties that include preparing jury seating charts, taking and reporting juror attendance, swearing in jurors and witnesses, and providing clear, concise safety instructions in the event of an emergency. You will also arrange for jurors' meals and transportation as needed. When not in court, you will answer phone calls, type legal correspondence and instructions, prepare notices of dismissal, and draft court orders, judgments, documents, and pleadings. You will maintain calendars, schedule proceedings, and perform research for the judge, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and pro se litigants related to financial data, case management and tracking, and pending warrants. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
