About The Position

The Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) serves the public, particularly those facing challenging life circumstances, high levels of stress, or confusion about their next steps. The role of Courtroom Clerk for the Honorable Francis Troy involves providing moderate-to-complex support to the judge and judicial assistant. Responsibilities include preparing files for pretrial review, scheduling hearings and trial dates, preparing motions, orders, and judgments, retrieving case law, managing the judge's docket, and assisting in case tracking. The position also requires preparing the courtroom for proceedings, swearing in witnesses, maintaining exhibits, and responding to security needs. The ideal candidate will have a direct positive impact on the community and possess high customer service skills.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years that supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare files for pretrial review.
  • Schedule hearings and trial dates.
  • Prepare motions, orders, and judgments.
  • Retrieve case law as requested.
  • Manage the judge's docket and update multiple calendars.
  • Assist in case tracking and review documents for accuracy.
  • Screen visitors and mail, obtain signatures, and certify court orders.
  • Summarize the day's rulings and verify the status of warrants.
  • Provide backup for the judicial assistant and mentor newer courtroom clerks.
  • Prepare the courtroom for proceedings and swear in witnesses.
  • Mark and maintain exhibits and monitor proceedings.
  • Respond to security needs and maintain audio and electronic records.
  • Update the case management system and facilitate Cisco Webex appearances.
  • Assist attorneys, litigants, and the public with court system inquiries.
