About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk at Hy-Vee Food Stores is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. This role involves assisting customers with their shopping experience, packaging purchases, and ensuring a clean and welcoming environment in the store. The Courtesy Clerk plays a vital role in enhancing customer satisfaction and supporting the overall operations of the grocery department.

Requirements

• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to deal with a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, and to copy figures, count, and record.
• Must be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Makes note of and passes along customer suggestions or requests to management.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Packages purchases and assists customers in transporting them to their mode of transportation.
• Cleans registers, restrooms, break room, backroom, and sweeps and mops the floor.
• Helps train new courtesy clerks and checks prices on products.
• Pulls product forward on shelves and brings carts in from the parking lot.
• Cleans the can redemption area and empties recycle bins where applicable.
• Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, and understands shelf tags.
• Maintains supplies on the front-end, such as paper/plastic sacks and receipt paper.
• Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
