About The Position

This role is responsible for providing courteous customer service in person or by telephone; answers incoming calls to the retail store and directs incoming calls to the appropriate department and assist with guest questions in store. Also responsible for operating cash register and/or assisting guests with self-checkouts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • One year of prior retail or related experience preferred.
  • Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
  • Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Good reading, writing and arithmetic skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous guest service in person or by telephone.
  • Answer incoming calls to the retail store and direct calls to the appropriate department.
  • Assist with guest questions in store.
  • Perform/process guest services transactions such as credits, over-rings, refunds, lottery ticket sales, money orders/transfers (Western Union), media related purchases, etc. in accordance with Company policies.
  • Operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and assist guests with self-checkouts.
  • Handle a variety of products which may include dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy products, produce, poultry, fish, beef and pork products.
  • Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons.
  • Bag customer purchases.
  • Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations.
  • Understand use of check-stand equipment (register, self-checkouts) and its efficient operation.
  • Comply with Company policies regarding security, cash handling/cash drawer accounting procedures, product handling, the sale of alcohol and tobacco products.
  • Communicate the Company programs in-store specials and coupons to customers.
  • Model high standards of service to achieve a customer oriented store.
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department.
  • Ensure the department complies with Company safety and sanitation procedures and standards.
  • Notify the department lead or manager of any issues with pricing, cash registers, etc.
  • Follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines.
  • Follow all Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations.
  • Follow Guest Experience Guidelines.
  • May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience need.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
