About The Position

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Firearm & TASER: Carry a firearm and/or TASER and maintain all qualifications and training as approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Medical Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies and maintain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification per the certifying organization’s requirements. Site Inspection & Patrol: Inspect, monitor, control, and patrol work sites, assigned locations, property, and/or people. Collaboration with Ohio State Highway Patrol: Work with Ohio State Highway Patrol assigned to the Court. Security Operations: Operate building security, badging, and access systems. Emergency Procedures: Implement emergency procedures for building operations. Public Interaction: Interact with Court employees, visitors, and the general public; greet visitors, answer, and direct calls. Documentation: Routinely complete paperwork and document activities. STAFF SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required. Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year or experience in working as a current Court Security Officer/Bailiff or a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the public security field, military, or law enforcement.
  • Has successfully completed or has the ability to complete TASER training and firearms certification as prescribed by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission. Must maintain TASER and firearms training as approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
  • Has current or is able to obtain certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Requires the ability to operate security equipment.
  • Ability to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively either verbally or in writing.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Works with customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations.
  • Ability to manage conflict and handle difficult people and conversations effectively
  • Performing job duties may occasionally require bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing a ladder or stairs, kneeling, squatting, or crawling.
  • The position requires the ability to lift and carry 50-80 pounds unassisted, stand and walk up to 75%25 of shift, and the ability to climb stairs daily.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include accurate color and depth perception, and the ability to see near and far.
  • The employee must be able to operate a TASER and/or firearm.
  • Monday through Friday, each Officer works two 9.5-hour shifts (6:30 am – 4:00 pm) with a half hour lunch and two 11.5-hour shifts (6:30 am – 6:00 pm) with a half hour lunch with a rotating day off during the week. Requires ability to work non-standard hours as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Will carry a firearm and/TASER at all times while on duty.
  • Employees may be regularly exposed to sensitive information and the employee is expected to keep any such information strictly confidential.

  • Previous experience with firearms, TASER, magnetometers, and X-ray equipment is a plus.
