About The Position

The Court Reporter position at Brazos County involves recording and accurately transcribing all court proceedings. Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent, plus graduation from court reporting school; experience is desired.
  • Certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter by the Supreme Court of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all sessions of the assigned county court-at-law and make a full record of evidence, objections, rulings, voir dire of jury duty, and arguments.
  • Take full shorthand notes of closing arguments, if requested by the attorney of a party to the case.
  • Take full shorthand notes of oral testimony offered before the court, including objections made to the admissibility of evidence.
  • Preserve all shorthand or machine notes taken in court for three years and prepare accurate transcripts of court proceedings for appeals or future use.
  • Mark and file with the court exhibits introduced into evidence during trials or hearings, and index and file notes taken in court.
  • Locate and read testimony adduced in court for court or jury assistance.
  • Handle all evidence presented in court.
  • Provide assistance to the public, including directing people to the appropriate offices.
  • Perform secretarial services that assist in the administrative functions of the court.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
