About The Position
Overby Court Reporting Service is seeking dedicated court reporters to join our team in Wilmington, NC. Founded in 1982, we have established ourselves as a leading court reporting service in North Carolina, providing a wide range of modern court reporting services, including advanced video conferencing capabilities. Our commitment to excellence ensures that we deliver meticulous service to our clients, and we are looking for professionals who share this dedication. As a court reporter, you will be responsible for recording depositions using stenography via a stenomask and other recording devices. This role requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to engage effectively with attorneys. The position is structured to allow court reporters to focus primarily on taking depositions, as they typically do not participate in the transcript production process. The job involves some light travel across North Carolina, and while the position is part-time, it requires availability from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Candidates should be articulate, dependable, and organized, with excellent attention to detail. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to take dictation rapidly and accurately for extended periods. A notary certification is preferred, or candidates should be willing to obtain one. A bachelor's degree in English or a related field is also preferred, although we are willing to train the right individual. The training process, which is unpaid, typically involves 4-6 sessions over a period of 4-6 weeks, and candidates will need to provide their own equipment for the training.
