About The Position

The Official Court Reporter for 241st District Court is responsible for capturing a verbatim record of live court proceedings and providing readback if needed to the judge of the designated court. The Official Court Reporter will prepare accurate transcriptions of required proceedings for attorneys and/or court of appeals. This court requires mechanical transcription writing.

Requirements

  • Requires considerable knowledge of Texas rules and statutes governing court reporters and transcript production.
  • Requires considerable knowledge of the organization and operations of the Court system.
  • Requires considerable knowledge of state open records laws and their application to court records.
  • Requires general knowledge of routine criminal and civil law.
  • High School Diploma or GED, completion of some college level course work, and minimum five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Position requires the ability to lift more than 20 pounds.
  • Position requires the ability to see and speak as well as above average hearing.
  • A person may not be appointed an official court reporter or a deputy court reporter unless the person is certified as a shorthand reporter by the Supreme Court. A certification issued under this chapter must be for machine shorthand.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as the Official Court Reporter for the 241st District Court.
  • Performing all duties as the Official Court Reporter in accordance with and mandated by the Court Reporters Certification Board.
  • Producing all transcripts requested in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with the Uniform Format Manual.
  • Producing all appeals in accordance with the Uniform Format Manual and any and all rules associated with the Appellate Court in which the appeal has been filed, while meeting all Appellate Court deadlines for completion.
  • Maintaining moderately complex clerical records and to prepare reports from them.
  • Verifying documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Exercising attention to detail in performing assigned tasks.
  • Exercising tact, courtesy and discretion in frequent contact with court officials, defendants and the general public.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Accepting, receiving, and/or collect payments.
  • Using small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Using computers for data entry.
  • Using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
