About The Position

The Court Reporter II position involves taking verbatim records of civil, criminal, and Grand Jury court proceedings. The role includes transcribing and certifying typewritten transcripts, as well as performing other duties as required. Court Reporters in Hawaii receive a base salary from the State, along with additional compensation for preparing transcripts as per Hawaii Revised Statutes section 606-13 and the Rules Governing Court Reporting in the State of Hawaii.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Work experience that demonstrates the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take verbatim dictation at 225 words per minute in question and answer testimony, 200 words per minute in jury charges, and 180 words per minute in literary.
  • Possess a current certificate as a Hawai`i Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
