About The Position

The position involves providing shorthand reporting for court litigation by creating a verbatim record of oral court proceedings, depositions, or grand jury sessions using shorthand, machine shorthand, or oral stenography. The court reporter is required to attend all court sessions, take comprehensive shorthand notes of oral testimonies, objections, court rulings, judicial opinions, and other proceedings. They will also read portions of transcripts during trials as directed and clarify any inaudible statements with speakers. The role includes preserving notes for future reference, maintaining appropriate files, and furnishing transcripts of reported evidence as requested. Additionally, the court reporter may conduct witness depositions, execute commissions, and report on contested probate matters. They will operate specialized stenographic equipment and may provide clerical support as needed, including managing court exhibits and office supplies. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
