About The Position

The Court Recorder position at Marquette County involves serving as the official recorder for court hearings in Probate and Family Court. The role requires the use of manual or electronic recording equipment to create accurate records of court proceedings, produce official transcripts, and provide clerical support to the court. The Court Recorder is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of recording equipment, managing evidence, and maintaining compliance with privacy standards.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent with some advanced education and/or legal secretarial coursework.
• Two years of legal secretarial experience, preferably in a court or law office setting.
• Certification as an Electronic Court Recorder by the Michigan Supreme Court within 12 months of hire.
• Ability to complete the MJI 12-hour Court Support Staff Certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare courtrooms for proceedings, ensuring recording equipment is operational and case files are ready.
• Utilize electronic recording equipment to accurately record court proceedings.
• Maintain a log of court activity, including identifying speakers and their relationships to the case.
• Monitor and record court proceedings, ensuring all parties are present and audible.
• Coordinate virtual elements of courtroom proceedings, including troubleshooting and facilitating access to virtual connections.
• Provide clerical support, including scheduling hearings, typing, filing, and responding to inquiries.
• Receive documents for filing and manage the collection of fines and fees.
