About The Position

The Second Judicial District is currently accepting both internal and external applications for a Court Operations Associate position within the Criminal Division Case Processing Unit. Reporting to the Court Operations Supervisor, this position involves performing a wide range of clerical duties, with a focus on case processing. The hours for this position will be 8:30am - 500pm. This position is hybrid, with opportunities for remote work, applicants may be required to assist with coverage at any Ramsey County court location, including the Law Enforcement Center, the St. Paul Courthouse, and the Suburban Courthouse. This position is responsible for case processing and courtroom support within the Criminal Division.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Must be able to work at multiple locations and must be able to travel between multiple locations within the same day
  • Employees preforming remote work from home office must provide reliable internet connection
  • Strong attention to detail and proven accuracy with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply applicable rules, statutes and policy as needed.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and concepts
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with court rules and procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to convey information clearly and concisely, and to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities, procedures, and job assignments
  • Ability to take direction effectively while maintaining a professional and positive attitude, even in challenging situations
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude and the ability to build and sustain respectful, effective working relationships
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation to complete tasks independently once goals and expectations are understood
  • Ability to prioritize work based on timeline requirements established and the ability to work at various court locations and remotely, as required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Six months or more experience as a court clerk or in a legal environment.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota Court Information Systems (MNCIS)
  • Experience with document imaging and managing electronic workflow queues.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Update a high volume of cases in MNCIS (Minnesota Court Information System), and manage all related paperwork
  • Schedule hearings, continuances, and other court events; prepare and distribute notices, orders, motions, and other documents, requiring a detailed knowledge of legal terminology, rules, and procedures
  • Process electronically and paper-filed documents, including updating court files and processing orders promptly and accurately
  • Provide support to Judges, Justice Partners, and the general public to effectively meet court business needs
  • Operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners and copiers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
