About The Position

Exploring the next step to lead others through your organizational and training skills? If you answered ‘yes’, the Minnesota Judicial Branch is looking for you! This position acts as a liaison between the State Court of Appeals Unit, judicial staff, attorneys, and other stakeholders about cases being appealed. Court Operations Associates use a daily report to process exhibits for appeals cases by verifying all the necessary information and exhibits are ready before sending to the Court of Appeals within the specified deadlines. The position also provides backup to the Contact Center by answering phones for a minimum of two hours per day and assisting with additional tasks if needed. This AFSCME-represented position is assigned to the Centralized Services Division located in downtown Minneapolis at the Hennepin County Government Center on C-453. The core hours for these positions are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday. This hybrid position requires a minimum of two days per week on-site, with remote work flexibility based on organizational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of relevant job experience or greater, which may include but is not limited to customer service, administrative work, office, and clerical work. (For example: bank teller, cashier, court clerk, legal assistant, medical billing specialist).
  • OR equivalent education and experience
  • Access to reliable internet connection is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside of the Judicial Branch.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a high volume, fast-paced work environment with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in maintaining and following confidentiality requirements
  • Ability to listen and interpret the nature of a problem and the relevant context in order to apply knowledge of court practices and processes to address individual court customer’s problems.
  • Ability to show a high degree of respect for all customers and stakeholders with diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, needs and experiences through courtesy and sensitivity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a district court, criminal justice, or legal environment.
  • Associate, paralegal, or bachelor’s degree
  • Experience applying strong analytical skills in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, policies, relevant laws, and legal documents, with working knowledge of using case management systems such as MNCIS (Minnesota Court Information System) and MNDES (Minnesota Digital Exhibit System)

Responsibilities

  • Manage court records for all case types, assuring completeness and accuracy of the record before sending the record and accompanying exhibits to the Appellate Court.
  • Accurately complete administrative work in the office by performing high-level case processing and data entry work in all case types by utilizing multiple court technology systems.
  • Communication via email with judicial staff and stakeholders to effectively manage appeal requests and meet the business needs of the court to assure equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.
  • Perform other related work duties as directed, including scanning, imaging, photocopying and transferring videos from CD/flash drive and uploading them onto the computer.
  • Assist the Centralized Contact Center by answering questions regarding all divisions from the public, attorneys, and stakeholders via phone for a minimum two hours per day.
