About The Position

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Court Liaison. The Primary duties of the Court Liaison involve the coordination of all Probate Court processes regarding involuntary patients. This includes coordinating with ARC, Unit Staff, Treatment Teams, Probate Court and Lawyers. This position provides education to staff and patients regarding the involuntary commitment process. The position also ensures that involuntary patients have the opportunity to sign informed consents. Secondary duties may include; the completion of chart reviews to ensure quality and regulatory monitors are being met. May also include assisting in Patient Complaints and Grievance investigations. This position may provide support to the Assessment and Referral Center as needed.

Requirements

  • Prefer Bachelor’s or Associates degree in psychology, sociology or social work.
  • Will consider related experience in lieu of Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a mental health setting highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all necessary processes and paperwork related to involuntary commitment is properly completed and followed.
  • Provides education to patients regarding the involuntary process.
  • Demonstrates clear of understanding of patient rights related to commitment process, as outlined in the Michigan Mental Health Code and Hospital Policy.
  • Notifies the Probate Court of the patient’s admission and ensures follow through with court processes in a timely manner, according to laws.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, treatment teams, courts and lawyers to ensure process is completed timely and properly.
  • Audits, monitors, develops, and implements any necessary process improvements related to the involuntary commitment process.
  • Assists in Hospital-Wide Performance Improvement Functions as necessary.
  • Provides assistance to the Assessment & Referral Center as needed.
  • Completes required on-line training as assigned.
  • Partners with Risk Management as assigned.
  • Serves as the back-up for hospital Recipient Rights advisor, (upon successful completion of required MDHHS training). Receives complaints concerning rights violations, conducts investigations and reports results according to state and hospital standards.
  • Coordinate and participate in the Recipient Rights Advisory Committee.
  • Trains and communicates with staff concerning patient rights, best practices, and collaborates for solutions to address patient grievance and complaints.
