About The Position
The Court Interpreter serves a critical role in the judicial system by providing skilled professional interpretation services during court proceedings involving non-English speaking individuals. This position requires the interpreter to act as a vital link between the court and non-English speaking defendants, witnesses, and victims, ensuring that all parties understand the proceedings and can participate fully. The interpreter will be responsible for interpreting oral statements and testimony, as well as translating written documents presented in Spanish. The role is based at the Fifteenth Judicial Court Main Courthouse in West Palm Beach, with occasional travel required to other Circuit Courthouses as needed. In this position, the interpreter will serve as the official interpreter and translator for various court activities, including hearings, non-jury trials, and jury trials. Responsibilities also include translating forms and documents utilized in court proceedings, inputting data into computer systems from daily reports, and participating in workshops designed for court interpreters. Additionally, the interpreter may be involved in training and observing freelance contractual interpreters, ensuring that all interpreters meet the necessary standards and practices required by the court system. The job may also involve other duties as assigned by management that are logical extensions of the position. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least two years of court/legal or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Florida Court Interpreter Certification or provisional approval from the Florida State Courts System is required, along with the ability to fluently speak, read, and write in both Spanish and English. Knowledge of simultaneous, consecutive, sight, and tape translation techniques is essential, as is a working understanding of the court system and its operations. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the judicial process and ensuring equitable access to justice for all individuals, regardless of their language proficiency.
