About The Position

The Court Interpreter position at the Municipal Court of Atlanta is responsible for providing language interpretation and translation services during court proceedings. This role ensures that non-English speaking visitors have fair and equal access to court services, thereby upholding due process. The interpreter will perform various tasks including interpreting spoken and written communications, translating court documents, and providing administrative support.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current certification for language interpretation or conditional approval through an eligible court interpreter commission or association.
• Two or more years of professional court interpretation experience, preferably in a high-volume court environment.
• Proficiency in both English and an alternative language as identified by the court (e.g., Spanish).

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Code of Professional Responsibility for Interpreters as created by the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Interpreters.
• Proficiency with basic productivity software, such as the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers and representatives of other departments.

Responsibilities

• Interpret court proceedings using necessary modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive, and simultaneous).
• Produce translations of documents such as official forms, public signs, notices, posters, form letters, and correspondence.
• Collect, enter, and maintain records of court interpretation-related information.
• Follow all mandated certified court interpretation guidelines and ethical standards.
• Advise and ensure the court follows best practices surrounding court interpretation guidelines and ethical standards.
• Coordinate interpretation services for languages or communication styles not covered by the incumbent's services.
