About The Position

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is seeking multiple Court Deputies to maintain security and order in the Superior Courts of Riverside County. The role involves assisting judges, serving civil and criminal documents, and performing related duties. Candidates should have prior law enforcement experience, and the position requires peace officer authority while on duty. Court Deputies will also assist in processing paperwork when not in courtrooms.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a Certificate of Proficiency or G.E.D.
  • Possession of a California Driver's License.
  • Possession of a State of California Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, or successful completion of the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy.
  • U.S. Citizenship by time of appointment.
  • Vision requirements: uncorrected vision of no worse than 20/40 correctable to 20/20, normal peripheral fields, and color vision.
  • Hearing requirements: no hearing loss greater than 25dB frequencies of 500 to 6,000 in either ear.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security in Superior Court and enforce court regulations.
  • Respond to requests from judges or commissioners for assistance.
  • Take charge of jurors during deliberations and answer inquiries regarding court procedures.
  • Take defendants into custody and arrange transportation for court and jury.
  • Obtain and deliver requested legal papers, books, and documents.
  • Transport prisoners to and from the courtroom and detention facility.
  • Serve limited civil and criminal documents or assist in processing office paperwork when not needed in courtrooms.
