Position Summary:
The Pathology Courier is responsible for picking up and delivering medical specimens, supplies, and packages for the Pathology Lab. This position requires walking for extended periods of time and use of own vehicle for travel. The Pathology Courier is expected to walk and drive scheduled recurring routes as well as adhoc pickups/deliveries.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age Required
• Must have a valid TN drivers license and “satisfactory” driving record Required
• Must own reliable vehicle and proper auto insurance Required
• Minimum high school diploma Required
• Follows guidelines set up by HIPAA, local, state, and federal regulations
• Detail Oriented
• Ability to work independently and with a team
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Follows safety guidelines as indicated in the safety manual
• Committed to supporting UCH’s standard to medical excellence

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years Laboratory Courier experience Preferred

Responsibilities

• Must have a courteous and pleasant demeanor
• Responsible for specimen pick-ups at all outpatient clinics and transfer of tissue to Pathology lab
• Responsible for transport of slides, cassettes, and specimens between Pathology lab, Histology, DermPath, Dental School, West Tennessee Forensics Center, Methodist University Hospital, and the VA
• Responsible for transport of collection kits and supplies to various client locations
• Opens and sorts incoming tissue specimens, ensuring accuracy of container to requisition
• Prepares tissue specimens for gross examination
• Accurately files and retrieves histology/cytology slides and blocks
• Perform weekly disposal of tissue specimens
• Assist with frozen section procedures as needed
• Assist with interdepartmental phone calls as well as calls from clients and physicians
• Extensive daily travel required
• Other duties as assigned.
