About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients within the hospital, coordinating with medical staff to ensure patient safety and comfort. This role involves assisting patients in and out of beds, using wheelchairs or stretchers, and maintaining logs of time-sensitive specimens and supplies. The Patient Transporter plays a crucial role in enhancing patient throughput and supporting the overall operations of the hospital.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED or 2 years of work experience as a dispatcher, transporter, or in a hospital setting.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification.

Responsibilities

• Safely and professionally transports patients to various locations within the hospital.
• Remains with discharged patients until their ride arrives for pick-up.
• Transports patients to the discharge center during operational hours.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting or moving patients.
• Keeps patients informed and provides periodic updates.
• Delivers medical items to nursing units as requested by the House Supervisor.
• Escorts visitors, patients, or staff to appropriate areas of the hospital.
• Advises supervisor of current or anticipated problems and resolves scheduling conflicts.
• Promotes and supports performance improvement initiatives within LCMC Health.
• Documents activities in accordance with departmental policies.
