About The Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform routine pick-up and delivery tasks in the receipt and distribution of administrative documents, materials and packages to school district locations. Employees in this classification receive and sort articles for delivery to district work locations including, but not necessarily limited to, school and office supplies, equipment, inter-departmental or work location letter mail and packages, etc. In addition, may receive, sort, and deliver packages, boxes and equipment received from commercial carriers, i.e., United Parcel Service, Federal Express, and other ground carriers. Position coordinates delivery route in an economical and time efficient manner. Duties are physically demanding, requiring incumbents to exercise considerable dexterity and physical agility in loading, unloading, and distribution of items. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the area of assignment. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year pervious driving experience demonstrating ability to safely operate a vehicle and maintain basic activity and numerical records, with ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Requires ability to maintain a valid driver’s license, class “E”
  • Requires satisfaction of forklift and/or pallet jack training.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Receives, sorts, organizes and delivers articles, mail, interdepartmental correspondence and packages for delivery and pickup to/from district wide locations.
  • Retrieves, transfers, transports and delivers items including, but not necessarily limited to, school and office supplies, equipment and packages appropriate for transport vehicle.
  • Maintains strict security and confidentiality of all correspondence to and from School Board Members, Superintendent, School Board Attorneys, and payroll data including payroll checks. Confidentially extends to any and all documents and materials handled.
  • Pickup and delivery assignments may include work orders for materials pickup, delivery or distribution initially issued by and stored at the Warehouse.
  • Loads delivery vehicles in a space efficient manner; coordinates load according to priority and in order of destination.
  • Operates assigned vehicle to daily/weekly scheduled locations for pick-up and delivery activities
  • Operates various equipment in loading, unloading, and distribution activities, i.e., equipment dollies, hand trucks, pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Performs pre-trip inspections to determine roadworthiness of assigned delivery vehicle; adheres to established preventive maintenance and service schedules; maintains vehicle service and mileage logs.
  • Maintains route time and delivery schedule consisting of 20-40 stops per day. Routes may change due to, but not limited to road conditions or changes in the number and location of stops.
  • Maintains documentation such as logs/records detailing trip times, delivery tickets, time sheets, mail received and delivered, and other items loaded into and out of vehicle
  • Performs various functions in supporting efficient operations, i.e., package preparation, labeling and preparing for shipment, etc.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
