About The Position

The County Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing a wide range of engineering projects and activities within Jessamine County, Kentucky. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and sustainability of the county's infrastructure, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and public facilities. The County Engineer collaborates with various departments and agencies, manages a team of engineering professionals, and provides expert guidance on engineering matters to support the county's growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Kentucky or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
  • Strong project management skills and experience leading engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Road Supervisor to plan, design, and manage the construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads, bridges, culverts, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct regular inspections of existing infrastructure to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.
  • Develop and implement long-term infrastructure improvement plans.
  • Lead and oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare project proposals, budgets, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and government agencies involved in construction projects.
  • Review submitted proposals to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to engineering and construction.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals for projects.
  • Communicate with the public, county officials, and stakeholders to address concerns and provide information on engineering projects.
  • Attend county board meetings and public hearings to present project updates and proposals.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and quality assurance standards in engineering projects.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in engineering practices, materials, and technology.
  • Apply innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
