About The Position

The County Auditor serves as the chief financial officer and fiscal officer of El Paso County, responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the County and ensuring compliance with Texas Statutes regarding county finances. This role involves managing the County Auditor's office, providing leadership in financial management, and ensuring public funds are properly accounted for and expended. The position also includes administrative responsibilities, personnel management, and strategic planning to meet the financial objectives of the County.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Public or Business Administration with a major in Accounting or a closely related field; MBA/MPA preferred.
• A minimum of ten (10) years experience in a progressively responsible financial management role in a large government organization, including five (5) years executive level experience.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
• Must have or obtain a Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assumes a statutory role in the management of the County Auditors' office with fiscal oversight of the County's finances.
• Oversees compliance with Texas Statutes relating to county finances, including accounting systems and reporting.
• Responsible for the oversight of day-to-day financial affairs and related accounting functions of the County.
• Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the County.
• Provides leadership in the development of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
• Testifies before the State legislature on matters related to County government.
• Represents the department in Commissioners Court and makes presentations and recommendations to the Court.
• Responsible for making financial recommendations on capital purchases and annual budget allocations.
