As County Arborist, develop and manage the County's reforestation and urban forest management programs. Develop long-term strategic initiatives relating to tree conservation and urban forestry, implement reforestation projects and manage reforestation program. Review rezoning and special use permit applications for general conformance with the County's Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and Design & Construction Standards Manual (DCSM). Participate in Planning Commission and Board of County Supervisor meetings. Assists in reviewing site and subdivision plans for conformance with the County's codes related to buffers, tree cover, landscaping, and tree preservation. Educates citizens on the value of tree preservation and reforestation and promotes what citizens can do for these resources on their properties. Attend meetings and public hearings to represent Public Works on matters pertaining to tree preservation, buffers, and landscaping. Investigate hazardous tree complaints related to County properties. Advises and participates in planting, caring, and maintaining trees for reforestation projects. Assist the County's site inspectors regarding issues related to landscaping, trees and natural open space including the assessment of impacts by construction and preparation of a punch list in accordance with nursery and tree care industry standards, the DCSM, and the approved plans. Participate in meetings held on construction sites to resolve tree-related issues. Professional development and ISA membership support, assigned county vehicle, cell phone and other technology.
