About The Position

The Family Counselor is responsible for assessing family needs and providing individual and family psychotherapy services within the FAST program. This role focuses on delivering evidence-based, recovery-oriented treatment to families involved in the child welfare system, with an emphasis on strengthening family relationships, improving communication, and supporting positive outcomes for youth and their families.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years full-time experience providing services to child welfare populations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Proof of personal vehicle insurance and registration
  • Ability to pass DCS clearance with no substantiated reports
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and physical exam if required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain

Responsibilities

  • Conduct therapeutic visits including individual, family, group, and multi-family sessions
  • Strengthen family relationships by improving communication and supporting treatment progress
  • Review and implement service treatment plans based on client needs and update as necessary
  • Deliver structured, goal-oriented sessions aligned with treatment plans
  • Assist families in accessing community resources, natural supports, and aftercare services
  • Maintain regular communication with families and interdisciplinary team members
  • Complete required reports, documentation, and case updates in a timely manner
  • Document attendance, participation, and comprehension of services on the same day
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse populations
  • Attend and present reports during Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings
  • Track and report mileage for job-related travel
  • Complete a minimum of 24 hours of annual job-related training
  • Participate in program meetings, in-service trainings, and team communications
  • Attend a minimum of 4 hours of supervision monthly, including individual and group supervision
  • Ensure safety, health, and welfare of clients and staff
  • Model program expectations and maintain professional standards
  • Act as a positive role model and mentor to families and team members
  • Address and respond appropriately to negative behaviors
