QualificationsPosition Title: Counselor, Unlicensed Location: Colorado Springs, CO (In-person) Employment Type: Full-Time Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule set by supervisor Job Summary: The Unlicensed Counselor – Ascent is a core member of Diversus Health’s multidisciplinary Ascent Team, providing intensive, community and home-based mental health services to adolescents and young adults within their first years of onset of psychotic symptoms. Ascent is a fidelity based model designed to support individuals with complex behavioral needs, and families of these individuals, with delivery of services in real-world settings that promote stability, psychoeducation, recovery, independence, and community integration. The Counselor, Unlicensed is a clinician role designed for professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact while building strong clinical skills and working toward independent licensure. As a valued member of Diversus Health’s multidisciplinary treatment team, this role provides hands-on experience delivering high-quality mental health and substance use services to individuals and families across outpatient, inpatient, home, and community-based settings. This position offers a supportive environment where developing clinicians can gain confidence, deepen clinical judgment, and refine therapeutic skills through real-world practice, supervision, and collaboration. The Counselor, Unlicensed plays a critical role in engaging clients, assessment and provision of person-centered, evidenced based care that supports in support stabilization and recovery—while actively progressing toward licensure and long-term clinical growth.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field (MA, MS, MSW, MFT).
  • Must obtain clinical licensure within two (2) years for continued employment.
  • Experience working therapeutically with the specified population.
  • Experience utilizing evidence-based and strength-based treatment modalities appropriate to the population served.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-based clinical environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately and professionally deliver and document services.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems; ability to type 25+ words per minute.
  • Demonstrated ability in active listening, ethical conduct, social perception, service orientation, and complex problem-solving.
  • Sound clinical judgment, decision-making, and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel between facilities, community locations, outreach events, and partner agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning Provide diagnostic assessments, including psychosocial history, diagnostic justification, and clinical conceptualization to inform treatment planning.
  • Develop and administer comprehensive treatment plans addressing diagnosis, safety, risk management, and treatment needs using culturally responsive and strengths-based approaches.
  • Develop and clearly communicate treatment recommendations grounded in diagnostic evidence and measured through clinical outcome tools.
  • Therapeutic Services Deliver high-quality, evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy services that are outcomes-informed.
  • Provide treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders as appropriate.
  • Engage clients as active partners in treatment planning, incorporating client feedback related to therapeutic rapport, quality of care, and symptom progression.
  • Adjust treatment interventions based on client-reported outcomes and clinical assessment.
  • Crisis Intervention & Safety Planning Identify and engage clients at risk through timely safety planning and clinical interventions that promote stabilization.
  • Develop safety plans that balance risk factors, client strengths, natural supports, and supervisory input.
  • Complete all crisis-related documentation accurately, thoroughly, and within required timeframes.
  • Documentation, Quality & Compliance Ensure all clinical documentation is completed in a timely manner and meets quality, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and professional practice standards.
  • Utilize client feedback and outcome measures to assess progress, motivation, treatment preferences, and appropriate level and length of care.
  • Care Coordination & Caseload Management Maintain effective working relationships with operations and clinical staff to manage caseloads and optimize scheduling.
  • Utilize data to support productivity, client engagement, and continuity of care, including understanding length of stay, clinical complexity, and service delivery intervals.
  • Discharge clients at clinically appropriate points of care in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Professional Development & Team Collaboration Participate in supervision, training, and professional development activities focused on licensure attainment and clinical skill development.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrate openness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement.
