About The Position

The Counselor- PRN position at American Addiction Centers involves providing individual, group, and family counseling to adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. The role emphasizes the importance of compassionate care and aims to empower patients and their families through recovery. Counselors are expected to demonstrate expertise in therapeutic interventions and participate actively in treatment teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology) required.
  • License eligible, actively working towards licensure and/or certification in alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a behavioral healthcare field.
  • Experience working with substance abuse, addictions, mental health, cognitive behavior treatment, and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge of utilizing electronic health record software and documentation.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria.
  • Counseling experience with adults, understanding of psychotropic medications and their symptoms and effects.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret written information, type documentation, present information to groups, and participate in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
  • Valid driver license and insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intervention, assessments, treatment planning, triage, and individual/group counseling.
  • Initiate and provide family counseling services.
  • Provide clinical services to all patients on caseload and assist with other patients as assigned by the clinical manager.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team meetings and program staff meetings.
  • Ensure all documentation meets contract, licensure, accreditation, and standards for services in a timely manner following AAC's documentation policy guidelines.
  • Communicate efficiently with other departments to ensure the best care for patients.
  • Provide clinical services to outpatient and inpatient adult populations.
  • Understand and abide by State Department standards, facility accreditation, and AAC's policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate dependability and adaptability with patients and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and company information.
  • Abide by the standards of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 guidelines.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing patient community as a therapeutic milieu.
