About The Position

The Lamont Summer Academy is seeking one (1) Head Residential Counselor and numerous Residential and Commuter counselors for our annual high school summer music intensive. The Lamont Summer Academy takes place from June 17 Through July 1. Work begins the morning of June 18 and concludes after the final student check out on July 2. Counselors must be responsible, positive role models for student musicians. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to creating an inspiring and productive environment and a passion for musical mentoring. In addition to daily responsibilities, Residential counselors will stay in double occupancy rooms and be in charge of a floor of underage students. Commuter counselors arrive at 7:45am each day and stay until all commuter students have been picked up. Head Residential Counselor will additionally be responsible for scheduling and managing counselor team, acting as primary liaison for directors, and additional duties as assigned. Preference given to Residential Counselors. This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring.
  • Music background
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must pass a complete background check to include criminal and National Sex Offender Registry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all students throughout the duration of the summer academy.
  • Ensure that students arrive on time to each of their classes and rehearsals
  • Maintain student safety and security both inside and outside of the building
  • Stay up to date on all logistical needs of their groups.
  • Participate in performances, coachings and teaching.
  • Resident Counselors: Being on the assigned floor from lights out until Breakfast
  • Commuter Counselors: Arriving at Newman Center at 7:45am daily and remaining with the students until daily activities are complete and all commuter students have been picked up.
  • Assisting with student check-in and departure.
  • Attending all staff meetings.
  • Escorting students from the dorms, Newman Center and off-campus activities.
  • Being in attendance at all meals, performances, recreational activities and concerts.
  • Assisting in the LSA office as needed.
  • Following and enforcing rules outlined in the Student Guidebook.
  • Aiding in stage management, recording and streaming of LSA concerts.
  • Assisting in organizing and facilitating recreational activities.
  • Aiding in marketing and social media content creation.
  • Reporting any concerns, including behavioral issues, to the Head Counselor immediately. If the Head Counselor is unavailable, report to the LSA leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
