COUNSELOR INTERN
About The Position
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and families? This hands-on Counselor Internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain meaningful, real-world experience in youth, family, and behavioral health services. Interns are immersed in treatment-oriented care, working alongside experienced professionals while developing practical skills essential for a future career in counseling, social work, or human services. Interns will actively participate in a dynamic learning environment that includes observation, supervised client interactions, and case management support. You’ll gain exposure to the full scope of services provided to children and families, including: Observing and assisting with client assessments in real-life settings Identifying client strengths, needs, and goals Supporting the development and implementation of case plans Participating in case staffing and treatment planning Coordinating services with community partners Learning professional documentation and report preparation
Requirements
- Enrolled and in good standing with an accredited university in an approved program
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Physical exam including TB screening
- Required criminal clearances (State Police, FBI, and State Child Abuse)
- Successful completion of background and reference checks
- Basic computer proficiency
- Availability primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends
Responsibilities
- Assist with home visits, court appearances, and family meetings
- Document contacts with parents, collaterals, and professionals
- Participate in team meetings, consultations, and group supervision
- Review case files, reports, and supporting documentation
- Transport youth and parents to appointments
- Assist with child abuse and neglect assessments
- Connect families with valuable community resources
