About The Position

This position is located in the Burlington office, Alamance County. The Counselor in Charge will assist the Unit Manager with work which involves planning, implementing, and evaluating the technical and administrative components of a diverse rehabilitation program’s day-to-day operations. This position is expected to collaborate with teachers and parents to provide services to high school students with disabilities including both the general high school population and those in the Occupational Course of Study. The Counselor in Charge will be the primary point of contact with the Program Specialists and EC Director to ensure quality services are being provided. The Counselor in Charge will work with the Unit Manager and staff to achieve unit goals for productivity and quality customer service. This position will be responsible for daily supervision, leadership and assigned casework supervision and approval for Rehabilitation Counselors and other assigned staff. Job responsibilities include the following: Assist individuals on the caseload with job development, job placement and other services to complete a rehabilitation plan for employment. Administrative management tasks to include casework approvals to ensure quality service delivery for the assigned coverage area, budget development and performance management/improvement. Staff development/training, and consultation/technical assistance to subordinate staff Work may include other related assignments as determined by Unit Manager

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor; or
  • Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Necessary Special Requirement: Successful completion of the agency requirements for independent counselor status.

  • In-depth knowledge of casework methodology and techniques of rehabilitation counseling
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing the delivery of rehabilitation or independent living services
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret medical and psychological data in planning and developing rehabilitative services
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, family members, and various professional and specialty services involved in the rehabilitation process.
  • Knows VR policy/procedure and can train and work with inexperienced counselors
