About The Position

The Counselor I position at Tarzana Treatment Centers involves providing individual counseling, group facilitation, and crisis intervention as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The role requires attending weekly supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings while maintaining professional conduct and adhering to agency policies regarding ethics and confidentiality. The position also includes specific duties related to alcohol and drug programs, HIV programs, detox and inpatient services, and youth services, ensuring comprehensive care and support for patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Registration with an approved state-level certification entity (CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP).
  • 1 year of experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.
  • Enrollment in an academic Addictions Studies Program with a minimum of 80 hours of approved instruction or agreement to complete hours within 6 months from hire.
  • Completion of ASAM A and B training within 15 days from hire.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in youth services.
  • Training to conduct urinalysis testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial developmental tasks and adolescent high-risk behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention on an as-needed basis.
  • Attends weekly individual and group supervision.
  • Attends in-service training and educational workshops.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.
  • Communicates fully with other staff members regarding patient behavior and progress.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner in dress, language, attitude, and behavior.
  • Maintains knowledge and support of the agency's philosophy and objectives.
  • Understands and maintains policies regarding professional ethics and patient confidentiality.
  • Completes/reviews/updates ASAM Assessment within established timeframes.
  • Initiates Individualized Treatment Plans and collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participates in Initial and Continuing Case Conferences.
  • Provides regular progress note charting in patients' Medical Records.
  • Facilitates educational groups and conducts regular 1:1 sessions with patients.
  • Reviews patient therapeutic writing assignments and provides feedback.
  • Provides counseling and testing services for HIV programs.
  • Maintains caseload and documentation of services and referrals.
  • Facilitates discharge-planning efforts for patients.
