As an Emergency Services Counselor at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will be an essential part of our 24/7 response team dedicated to addressing psychiatric crises. In this multifaceted role, you will conduct initial mental status assessments and provide short-term crisis intervention services, ensuring individuals in urgent need receive timely and effective care. Your responsibilities will include facilitating temporary detention orders (TDO) and coordinating admissions to necessary treatment services. Additionally, you may train less experienced counselors and offer specialized consultation in areas such as geriatrics or child and adolescent counseling. You'll actively respond to crisis intervention calls, implement stabilizing measures, and maintain accurate client records while leading efforts to enhance service delivery. This position emphasizes assessment, intervention, and support, allowing you to directly impact the lives of those facing psychiatric challenges in our community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling or social work field that fulfills the criteria for eligibility for professional licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • One (1) year of experience in a psychiatric care setting, including counseling and crisis intervention functions
  • Valid VA Driver's license
