About The Position

Designs and implements a school guidance curriculum; provides individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of elementary school students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Requirements

  • Special Service Provider License - School Counseling - Colorado Department of Education
  • Master's Degree: Counseling

Responsibilities

  • Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.
  • Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
  • Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.
  • Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
  • Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.
  • Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual counseling.
  • Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social needs.
  • Assist in coordinating district and state testing programs.
  • Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
  • Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
  • Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.
  • Manage a counseling program in order to encourage and support academic achievement and personal/social development.
  • Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
  • Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their education.
