The Counselor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is a vital role within the Counseling Center, reporting directly to the Director. This position is primarily responsible for providing short-term individual and group counseling support to students who are financially challenged, particularly in the wake of increased mental health concerns exacerbated by the pandemic. The counselor will engage in crisis care, perform risk assessments, and offer general counseling and referrals on academic, career, and situational matters. The role is crucial in enhancing the mental health infrastructure that supports student success, especially for those navigating economic adversity, including low-income students and those affiliated with the Office of Disability Services. The counselor will also address the needs of students experiencing housing and food insecurity, ensuring that all students have access to the necessary mental health resources. In this position, the counselor will work within a stepped care model to provide effective counseling support. Responsibilities include responding to urgent student concerns, conducting risk assessments, and providing intakes for students with various mental health issues. The counselor will also be responsible for case management, ensuring continuity of care by following up with referred providers. Additionally, the counselor will develop and organize workshops and events tailored to student needs and interests, contributing to a supportive and engaging campus environment. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting, manage walk-in emergencies, and collaborate with administration, faculty, and parents to provide comprehensive support to students. This is a grant-funded position with funding available through June 30, 2025, and all employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. The counselor will work Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of schedule changes based on departmental needs.
