About the position

William Paterson University is hiring a Counselor/Group Interventions Specialist who is a licensed Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor with demonstrated experience in clinical and psychoeducational group intervention methods. This position is dedicated to counseling students of culturally diverse and intersectional identities. The role is full-time and on-site, with some capacity for remote work opportunities as determined by departmental needs. The Counseling, Health and Wellness Center provides clinical, educational, and outreach services to support students' physical and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Providing culturally proficient individual and group counseling, treatment planning, triage assessments, referrals to resources, and follow-up services via in-person and telehealth visits.
  • Conducting group counseling that is psychotherapeutic or psycho-educationally based, addressing treatment plan goals.
  • Completing timely group counseling assessments, session notes, and associated documentation.
  • Leading, co-leading, or providing training consultation for up to five therapeutic groups per week.
  • Using multi-modal facilitation skills to market, recruit, and engage students in group interventions.
  • Assisting in the creation and completion of assessment activities to determine the efficacy of group interventions.
  • Facilitating referral and after-care services to ancillary providers and coordinating care with Health Center staff.
  • Providing consultation services to faculty and staff regarding student assistance.
  • Representing the Center on division-wide committees and at university-wide functions.
  • Rotating with other staff to provide overnight and weekend on-call coverage.

Requirements

  • Earned Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or Mental Health Counseling.
  • Clinically licensed in the state of NJ for Social Work, Counselor, and Psychology candidates.
  • License eligible LAC and LSW candidates are welcome to apply.
  • Availability for phone on-call emergency services.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessing and treating a wide range of disorders and levels of function.
  • Experience developing and leading clinical and/or psychoeducational group work.
  • Experience with marketing and member recruitment strategies for groups.
  • Experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a treatment team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an institution of higher education with university-level students.
  • Demonstrated interest in the higher education environment.
  • Supervisory experience of staff and other therapists in training.
  • Working knowledge of social service resources in Northern New Jersey.
  • Experience using telehealth platforms for patient care.
  • Experience developing and running outreach programming.
  • Experience making presentations to various audience sizes.
