About the position

Under the immediate supervision of the principal, assumes delegated responsibilities for pupil personnel services at the school site. Provides assistance to students in making appropriate decisions in the behavioral, vocational, social and academic realms within the framework of the school, community, and home.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the student placement process to provide for the highest level of student success.
  • Assists teachers and provides leadership related to emotional, social, and personal development of students.
  • Assists in the development of the master schedule.
  • Monitors student attendance and makes appropriate recommendation to SARB, or other services.
  • Coordinates and assists with testing.
  • Monitors Student Assistance Program, conflict resolution, and other crisis interventions.
  • Refers to alternative education programs such as Gilroy Community Day School.
  • Refers cases to Child Protective Services, and handles other mandated referrals.
  • Attends Student Study Teams, Section 504 and IEP meetings.
  • Provides assistance to teachers in the interpretation of abilities and needs of individual students.
  • Schedules, plans and conducts parent-teacher and teacher-student conferences.
  • Coordinates counseling and guidance activities and or experiences that take place with the cooperation of the classroom teacher.
  • Makes preliminary evaluation of the school problems of students referred by teachers, the principal, and others, and makes appropriate referrals for other district and community services.
  • Assists the principal in planning and conducting in-service education experiences for the staff in such areas as human relations, child growth and development, and guidance functions of the classroom teacher.
  • Responsible for students' academic placement.

Requirements

  • Current California Pupil Personnel Services Credential

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of California Education Code
  • Knowledge of special programs, guidance, scheduling and restructuring
  • Three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum
  • Recent successful experience as Instructional Leader
  • Experience facilitating groups/decision making processes
  • Knowledge of district and site policies and procedures relating to staff, students and parents
  • Ability to deal with high stress situations in a calm and tactful manner
  • Ability to maintain effective communications and a cooperative working relationship with staff, students and parents
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to effectively meet established deadlines and schedules.
