The Counselor for the 2024-25 school year at Pittsburgh Public Schools plays a vital role in the personal, social, emotional, and academic development of students. Under the guidance of the School Principal and with support from the Director of Student Support Services, the Counselor is tasked with developing and implementing a comprehensive counseling program tailored to assist students in achieving their educational and occupational goals. This position is crucial in fostering an environment where students can thrive academically while also developing strong character and essential life skills that prepare them for future success in college and careers. The Counselor will engage in a variety of activities aimed at supporting students and their families. This includes providing direct services through curriculum implementation, individual student planning, and both preventive and responsive services. The role requires addressing educational challenges faced by students through individual or group support, utilizing culturally relevant methods to motivate and develop students' growth. The Counselor will also be responsible for maintaining student records, providing guidance for post-secondary education, and collaborating with community partners to ensure a holistic approach to student support. In addition to these responsibilities, the Counselor will participate in departmental planning, assist with the homebound process, and facilitate the preparation of post-secondary applications.
