About The Position

The Counsel position at the New York State Senate Minority Conference involves providing legal, policy, and budget analysis to support the Senate Republican Leader and Senators. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to research and review legislation, prepare briefing materials, and assist in public engagements. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Albany, NY, with a focus on legislative and governmental contexts.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree
• Strong writing and oratory skills
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
• Experience in a legislative, political, or governmental context is preferred
• Candidates must live and work in the Capital Region of New York.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal, policy and budget analysis for the Senate Republican Conference
• Track committees and legislation active in the state Senate and state Assembly
• Conduct legal and policy-related research
• Prepare materials and brief Senators and staff on legislation, policy initiatives, and regulatory changes
• Assist Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events
• Work with Albany and statewide staff to assist Senators in drafting and analyzing legislation and policy
• Meet with and build relationships with relevant stakeholders, advocacy, and constituency groups
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
