We are seeking an experienced Taxation Attorney to provide legal management and guidance to Avantus’ utility-scale solar and storage projects. The successful candidate will have significant expertise in federal tax credit qualification, the Inflation Reduction Act, the One Big Beautiful Bill, project structuring, and commercial contract review for large-scale solar and storage projects. Additional experience in tax equity financing, tax credit transfers, and other renewable energy financing arrangements is essential. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex transactions that shape the future of clean energy and reports to the Vice President, Taxation.

  • Provide strategic guidance and cross functional support on project development matters, including tax credit qualification, entity structuring, tax risk mitigation, and monetization strategies.
  • Analyze and advise on federal tax credit eligibility, including ITC, PTC, transferability, prevailing wage/apprenticeship requirements, domestic content and other issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of project and financing documents, including purchase price agreements, purchase and sale agreements, financing documents, EPC/O&M agreements, and financing and tax equity documentation.
  • Advise and become a cross-functional team member responsible for modeling, structuring, negotiation, and execution of contracts for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, and external stakeholders (sponsors, investors, developers, lenders, advisors).
  • Be the primary point of contact and coordinate with external legal counsel.
  • Stay current and advise the business on evolving IRS guidance, Treasury regulations, and industry best practices related to renewable energy tax incentives.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 4–7 years of tax practice experience at a major law firm or equivalent environment.
  • Experience with IRA-related guidance and transferability markets.
  • Capability to interface directly external advisors and counterparties.
  • Interest in mentoring internal tax compliance team and supporting practice growth.
  • Demonstrated expertise in renewable energy tax incentives, tax equity structures, and project finance transactions.
  • Strong understanding of partnership tax principles and federal income tax rules applicable to energy projects.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
