About The Position

The Counsel position at Warner Bros. Discovery focuses on providing legal support for the Magnolia Network's content development, production, and acquisition. The attorney will be responsible for drafting and reviewing agreements, negotiating terms, and advising on various legal issues related to documentary and non-scripted reality television programming. This role requires collaboration with multiple internal departments and managing projects under tight timelines.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in-house in the business affairs or legal department of an entertainment company or law firm.
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to NY state bar and in good standing.
  • Knowledge of television programming and talent agreements.
  • Knowledge of defamation, privacy, and copyright laws.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative, business-friendly approach to problem solving.
  • Strong relationships with entertainment attorneys, talent agents, and managers.
  • Industrious and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and manage projects.
  • Excellent business and legal judgment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a cable or broadcast television network, studio, or production company.
  • Working knowledge of union and guild issues.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the drafting and review of agreements for Magnolia programming projects.
  • Negotiate business and legal terms with producers' lawyers and agents.
  • Draft and/or review development, commission, co-production, acquisition, and related agreements.
  • Advise senior network executives on production and key talent business and legal issues.
  • Review and draft ancillary production-related documents such as access agreements and participant releases.
  • Manage deals under tight timelines while acquiring appropriate rights within budgetary parameters.
  • Coordinate with network editorial/creative and production management.
