About The Position

Wage band range $70,340.00 - $85,000.00 annually. However, starting pay is ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. Position is eligible for Bilingual pay incentive. Under the guidance of the Clinical Program Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cottage. Secondary Supervisor will be the Assistant Director of Campus Services. Directly supervises approximately 15-20 employees within the cottage. Responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This includes direct supervision/training of the cottage Mental Health Worker I, II, and III’s (including NOC, Per Diem), and care coordinator. In conjunction with the Clinical Program Director, ensures implementation of treatment plans for each youth; and, maintenance of a therapeutic environment within the cottage. In addition, this position coordinates a variety of activities for student/youth, implements the program structure, and acts as a liaison with the education component. Requirements

  • Position requires staff must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Completed and cleared Livescan, criminal statement, health screening with TB test.
  • Must undergo a one-hour training which reviews Mandated Reporting requirements as per Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). This training takes place during pre-service orientation training and periodically thereafter.
  • Must take Facility Manager Training (1&2) that meets criteria for CCL to be eligible to serve as on-call administrator
  • Valid driver’s license is required for transporting youths. Any changes that occurs on your driving record must be reported immediately to your supervisor.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • At least 1 year of demonstrated ability and experience to lead a team.
  • Must meet at least one of the following requirements prior to employment: Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree. Have a valid Child Development Training Permit, or Vocational Training Certificate; or completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth. Previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center for 1 year, and/or prior experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice system as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
  • TCI Trained, Person Brain, Trauma Informed Caregiving.
  • Ability to use various computer software.
  • Knowledge of Title 22, Division 6 licensing requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong human relations skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, budgets, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, youth, families, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and ratios.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to design and maintain a budget.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Ability to interview and hire well-suited candidates and to provide/oversee discipline as needed.
  • Ability to address complaints and resolve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring and Support Interacts and provides counseling between the employee and the youth and/or others aimed at preparing the youth to analyze and better understand the reason for placement.
  • Handles associated emotional problems, resolving difficulties between the youth and family that led to the need for placement, and plans for the return of the youth, if appropriate.
  • Provides assistance to each youth in working in a group and in handling individual problems.
  • Counsels youth in identifying and resolving social or other problems.
  • Supports campus teams in crisis situations, guides and helps develop staff’s crisis intervention skills.
  • Works effectively with clinicians to provide a sound treatment program for the youth.
  • Supervision and Staff Management Supervises, protects, and cares for the youth individually and in groups and ensures that his/her staff do the same.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and supervises all Mental Health Workers and provides for their performance evaluations and ensures their continued staff development and operational effectiveness.
  • Also carries out disciplinary actions as needed to the staff.
  • Maintains work schedule for staff and minimizes the need for overtime.
  • Ensures positive and ongoing communication among the staff.
  • Ensures Supervision and rounding occurs for all supervisees.
  • Provides written performance evaluations at the conclusion of Introductory Period and then annually thereafter.
  • Operational and Administrative Responsibilities Oversees the ordering of supplies and determines need for maintenance, repairs, and furnishings.
  • Maintains a cottage budget and practices cost-effective measures to ensure low operating costs.
  • Functions as a liaison with classroom teachers and Director of Education.
  • Functions as liaison with guardians.
  • Functions as a liaison with California Care Licensing.
  • Coordinates the supervision of individuals on trips outside establishment for shopping or to obtain medical or dental services.
  • Ascertains need for and secures services of medical personnel (psychiatrists, etc.).
  • Ensures monthly staffing and coordinates with Facility Managers and Supervisor as needed.
  • Serves on the On-Call Administrators’ rotation.
  • Youth Activities and Program Coordination Assigns rooms, assists in planning recreational activities, and supervises work and study programs.
  • Chaperones group-sponsored trips and social functions.
  • Co-Supervises the cottage milieu with the Clinical Program Director to ensure collaboration amongst departments, best practices, and a therapeutic milieu.
  • Confidentiality and Ethics Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations, and youth.
  • Professional Development and Leadership Participates in Leadership Development Institute (LDI).
  • Provides support to cottages' needs M-F as needed by cottage staff and clients.
  • May perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
