About The Position

The occupational therapy assistant is a qualified person who provides occupational therapy services to patients in the home under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist. Responsible for administering occupational therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the Physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the Occupational Therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient. The PTA assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within their limits of their capabilities. The PTA participates in operational aspect so the training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an occupational therapy assistant program with curriculum approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Council of Medical Educations and Hospitals of the AMA.
  • Licensed and/or registered by the state of IL.
  • Must have a car with required insurance coverage and a State Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably 2 years’ experience as an occupational therapy assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the occupational therapist in evaluations of the level of function of the patient.
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes.
  • Helps develop the plan of treatment (revising as necessary).
  • Advises and consults with the family and other agency personnel.
  • Observes, records, and reports any changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Educates the patient/family and agency personnel in use of equipment and home therapy.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in occupational therapy body mechanics programs.
  • Assists with the rehabilitation of patients according to the plan of care.
  • Participates in case conferences and in-services.
  • Communicates effectively with all providing care.
  • Assists in educating patients with home exercise programs and use of equipment.
  • Ensures quality care.
  • Confirms scheduling visits with the occupational therapist to coordinate necessary visits with other personnel.
  • Excellent customer service.
