About The Position

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is a member of the home care team who works under the supervision of the assigned Occupational Therapist and the Director of Nursing provides therapy services to clients in their homes under the Plan of Care established by the Occupational Therapist.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited COTA program.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of COTA experience.
  • Valid State of Texas COTA License.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, may contribute to the assessment of inpatients and outpatients in relation to their diagnosis.
  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, may provide intervention in accordance to, and contribute to the treatment plan, which is patient focused and relevant to the actual and potential health problems of the patient.
  • Documentation (daily charges, progress notes, and other reports) is complete, legible, accurate, and timely.
  • Therapeutic benefit of treatment is monitored and modified appropriately.
  • Provides education at the level appropriate for each patient and/or family’s learning needs are assessed, addressed, and documented.
  • Initiates, coordinates, and communicates collaborative efforts (provider updates, discharge planning) amongst health team members and other interested parties to show a comprehensive picture of the customer.
  • Demonstrates competency in clinical skills and techniques specific to each unit on an annual basis.
  • Organizes and adjusts schedule according to patient demand volume and caseload to maintain productivity and ongoing patient improvement and satisfaction.
  • Keeps supervising OT and DoN informed of ongoing activities or any problems in regard to patient caseload in a timely manner.
  • Provides input to supervising OT and DoN of operational matters including but not limited to continuing education, quality improvement, supplies, and patient care planning.
  • Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and act in accordance with Qualicare policy and procedures and the licensing Board of Texas Healthcare and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Maintains productivity expectations.
  • Advances customers as indicated throughout therapy visits.
  • Demonstrates quality and timeliness of documentation.
  • Provides and encourages referrals to Qualicare Home Care.
