About The Position

The Costing Analyst is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing accurate product and inventory costs to support margin analysis, pricing decisions, and financial reporting. This role partners closely with the Purchasing department by receiving approved pricing inputs and using those inputs to create and maintain product costings, including costings for new products. The Costing Analyst does not negotiate vendor pricing but ensures cost accuracy, ERP integrity, and timely cost updates across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in cost accounting or cost analysis
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Standard costing
  • Inventory valuation
  • COGS and gross margin analysis
  • Strong Excel skills (cost models, pivot tables, lookups)
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Business Central preferred)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing, food, or distribution industry experience
  • Experience supporting new product launches
  • Familiarity with landed cost and freight modeling

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cost changes and assess impact on COGS and gross margin
  • Support month-end close activities related to inventory valuation and cost accuracy
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to product costs Purchasing Price Intake & Validation
  • Receive approved pricing inputs from the Purchasing department
  • Validate pricing against purchase orders and invoices for accuracy
  • Ensure timely incorporation of price changes into costing models
  • Maintain organized cost documentation for audit and internal review purposes
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to resolve data or timing discrepancies (no vendor negotiations) Product Costing & New Product Cost Creation
  • Create detailed costings for new products using Purchasing-provided inputs, including:
  • Raw materials and ingredients
  • Packaging components
  • Direct labor
  • Overhead allocations
  • Freight, duties, and tariffs (when applicable)
  • Maintain and update product cost sheets and BOM-based cost models
  • Update costings for:
  • New product launches
  • Reformulations or packaging changes
  • Approved price updates
  • Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of costs in the ERP system (e.g., Business Central)
  • Partner with Finance, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales
  • Provide cost and margin analysis to support pricing and operational decisions
  • Support internal and external audits by providing costing support and explanations
  • Contribute to process improvements related to costing accuracy and efficiency
