About you and this role We are seeking the next Turnaround Cost Management Technologist at our site in Plaquemine, LA. As the Turnaround Cost Management Technologist, you act as a technical resource for Cost Management within the Global Turnaround (Platinum) work process. You support establishment of the overall cost baseline with reporting to monitor and control the turnaround within established tolerances of the baseline. Coordinate data inputs from the various disciplines and functions to ensure accurate forecasts and reporting of cost. Engage the turnaround steering team to understand causes of deviations from tolerances, if any, and the need to establish actions to mitigate. This role requires advanced skills and expertise in a range of processes, procedures, and systems, and/or specialized technical expertise within an analytical/scientific method or operational process to perform a broad range of complex work assignments. May act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating the work of others.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 4 years of cost management, manufacturing or other related experience required.
  • This role may require working an extended schedule based on business needs and turnaround schedule.
  • Overtime will be required to support turnaround execution.
  • Must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.

  • Cost Control & Forecasting: Strong Finance/Accounting knowledge and background. Ability to integrate cost estimates, track expenditures, manage monthly accruals, and forecast total turnaround costs, including managing baselines, and contingency analyses.
  • Analytical & Technical Expertise: Strong analytical skills to assess deviations, estimate cancellation costs, and evaluate financial impacts using complex data and cost analysis tools.
  • Project Management & Coordination: Experience coordinating inputs across disciplines, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting turnaround steering teams.
  • Communication & Reporting: Proficiency in reporting cost data, highlighting issues, and supporting project metrics and stakeholder communications. Strong communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Attention to Detail & Compliance: Accuracy in tracking costs, change orders, and deviations while ensuring compliance with internal controls and execution standards.

  • An associate’s degree is preferred.
  • 6 or more years' experience preferred.
  • Prior Dow cost experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate the turnaround/project cost estimate, workhour estimate, and turnaround schedule into the Cost Management baseline.
  • Lead the turnaround team in deriving an accurate and realistic forecast of all funds required to complete the turnaround within the defined budget and schedule while incorporating own trending and analyses.
  • Estimate costs of deviations and assesses impact on total turnaround cost.
  • Ensure accurate reflection of committed/spent funds, turnaround deviation notices, field change orders, and turnaround execution changes in all cost documents.
  • Alert the turnaround team to critical Cost Management issues.
  • Develops and analyze monthly cost accruals and contingency reporting.
  • Ensure accurate representation of cost data and cost forecast in monthly reporting.
  • Drive the final billing process and ensure it is followed and completed in the necessary timeframe.
  • Establish a work breakdown structure based upon work process norms and execution strategy.
  • Develop and maintain cost reports, cash flow/cancellation curves, and contingency analysis.
  • Provide supporting data for turnaround execution metrics, external benchmarking and turnaround closure.
