Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Cost Accountant to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA . The Cost Accountant ensures the accuracy and integrity of the company’s inventory and cost accounting systems. This role is responsible for analyzing gross margins across products, customers, and regions, and for developing cost accounting systems that support strategic decision-making at both executive and operational levels. The position also provides detailed analysis and reporting to support line supervisors, facility managers, and cross-functional teams, helping to drive financial transparency and operational efficiency.

  • Learn and understand the company’s manufacturing processes to support accurate cost allocation
  • Construct and maintain cost accounting systems to support internal decision-making and external reporting
  • Develop and monitor direct labor, materials, equipment, and overhead cost structures
  • Establish and update standard costs in the bill of materials as required
  • Calculate raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods costs
  • Reconcile and validate inventory balances to the sub-ledger and underlying system data regularly
  • Create and review cost accounting system controls
  • Complete month-end closing and reporting procedures related to cost and inventory accounting
  • Monitor and analyze Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) accounts and variances
  • Provide month-over-month analysis of inventory balances and related costs
  • Analyze costing data and prepare product and customer gross margin reporting
  • Prepare product unit cost reporting and ad hoc price-cost analyses for specially priced products
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in inventory and margin reports
  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses
  • Facilitate departmental approvals for new item costs by identifying anomalies through daily reports
  • Provide cost accounting support to operations leaders, supervisors, and cross-functional teams
  • Deliver clear, actionable variance analysis commentary during month-end close
  • Assist in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience (minimum two years in manufacturing standard and job costing required)
  • Proven analytical skills, organizational abilities, and relevant computer skills
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Infor Mapics Syteline preferred) and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and comply with company directives
