We are seeking a motivated and analytical individual that can work well, both independently and in a team environment, to serve as Cost Accountant II in our Cost Accounting Group. This unique opportunity is part of the Accounting and Contracts Division (ACD), which supports the exploration and innovation of the laboratory's missions by performing professional accounting work. This position requires knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing the data and records of financial transactions to guarantee compliance to the prime contract, various regulatory provisions and maintaining the integrity of JPL's financials. ACD's functions encompass Enterprise Accounting Services, Travel and Invoice Management, and Contracts. Our Division ensures that the finance and accounting policy and procedures of the laboratory are efficient, effective and compliant with relevant regulations so that JPL can "Dare Mighty Things". As a Cost Accountant II, you will conduct timely and relevant analysis of accounting transactions for business operations, support internal and external audits, troubleshoot inquiries, and provide reports as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; Master's degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 1 year of related experience or PhD with ) years of related experience.
  • Broad knowledge in related fields of: Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, set priorities, and work well with management and other team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in Accounting.
  • Broad knowledge of Federal Government Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Broad knowledge of Aerospace, Non-profit or Higher Education accounting practices.
  • Experience working with an integrated financial system.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review accounting transactions interfaced to Projects for accuracy and resolve issues
  • Prepare and process complex accounting transactions for various business processes
  • Prepare and identify discrepancies in various reconciliation processes
  • Process material transfer and cost transfer requests
  • Participate in Property Administration activities, including material, CWIP, real property, and reporting of data to NASA
  • Participate in charging practices team, reviewing charging requests from JPL community
  • Support customer inquiries and provide training of processes/tools as required
  • Support internal/external audits related to projects & property accounting
  • Support strategic initiatives that align with ACD’s mission/visions and other ad hoc assignments
  • Develop internal process documentations or desk procedures
