About The Position

Better Being is looking for a Senior Cosmetic Formulation Scientist to develop a line of skincare products on a contract basis. This person will be responsible for the development of the requested formulas from bench top testing through production scale-up, while adhering to strict label, claim, and cost parameters. They will work closely with all necessary departments within Better Being to ensure the successful development and launch of this product line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science or a related field from a four-year college or university
  • Five to ten years of related experience and/or training in cosmetic formulation
  • Product development experience in the natural skincare space preferred
  • Successful development and commercialization of skincare products developed for sensitive skin
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Responsibilities

  • Develops excellent formulas matching the desired product concepts
  • Works closely with the Marketing team to ensure that all desired parameters are met
  • Works closely with the Regulatory team to ensure that all desired claims are supported
  • Works closely with the Procurement team to source necessary materials
  • Creates and edits product formulas and specifications in our PLM system
  • Creates a master manufacturing record for each formula
  • Conducts all necessary testing to ensure product functionality and stability
  • Oversees pilot batch testing
  • Provides manufacturing support to ensure successful transition to full-scale production
  • Keeps thorough and clear records of all work
  • Provides learning opportunities to the Formulation team relative to the subject matter
  • Attends and participates in meetings as necessary
  • Supports and is involved in company and department safety policies, procedures, programs and activities
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Other duties as assigned
